# Feelings and changes of mood

Chapter 04 | Captured 24 September 2026

## Finding

Perfume can lift a mood, but it can also help people stay with a feeling they already have. SDJ has room to talk about comfort, confidence and quieter moments as well as joy.

## Conversations

People describe reaching for scent to feel more like themselves, not simply to feel happier. Some avoid perfumes tied to difficult memories; others choose a scent that suits a melancholy day.

Counterpoint: A fragrance is not automatically a mood improver. The 2019 opener says the chosen scent did not improve their 'bleh' mood; another participant actively avoids attaching perfume to negative feelings.

## Recommendation for the Sol de Janeiro launch

Ask creators which scent they reach for when they want to feel a particular way, and let them tell the story in their own words. Give the four EDPs distinct emotional settings without promising that a perfume will change anyone’s mood.

## Limits

Self-reported emotional experiences, not therapeutic or causal substantiation. Prompts invited mood stories. Current mist/brand discussion does not substantiate future EDP performance or exact new-product demand.

## Current sizing

Overlapping sets: do not add these rows. Ahrefs estimated UK monthly Google searches, latest-known 12-month average.

## Exact selected quotations

For me, Nest Indigo layered with Nest Wisteria Blue embodied my sadness. Nest Indigo smells medicinal on my skin and I really didn't like that. As it turns out, that medicinal accord that I didn't like, was the thing that resonated with my sadness. Indigo layered with Blue Wisteria (by Nest) smelled so much like how I felt (sad but trying to be optimistic) that I was basically wearing my emotions.

To me, citrus is a happy note, so I wear citrus when I am cheerful. And sometimes I wear citrus scents when I am trying to cheer myself up.

I will use different fragrances depending of my mood, but ain't no way I will wear a specific frag if I'm sad. Either I will wear one that I love that will life up my mood either not, because I'm not going to associate a fragrance with negative thoughts
